Featured Artist: Ursala Hudson

Ursala Hudson creates beautiful  art! I am amazed at the detail that she is able to create with her wonderful printmaking. She is incredibly talented. Here, she describes her art and her process  "My dad first taught how to block print when I was four years old. Since then, I hadn't taken printmaking very seriously until I started to carve wood last year. I find block printing to be very rewarding, although sometimes I can't justify WHY. It takes me about 50 hours to complete a print from the brainstorming state until the prints are signed, which may seem like way too much when you look at a print. I carve my blocks out of Shina plywood using small Japanese knives. A separate block is needed for each color, which has taken me anywhere from 2-8 hours per block. All the negative space is carved away from each shape of color for each block. Once the first block is inked up and printed onto Japanese paper, I let the ink dry for a day before printing the next color."  Thank you so much Ursala for sharing your amazing process with us.
