Look How Much My Little Kalanchoe has grown! Ring 81

RAD 81/365 03.22.10ring 81 I took a picture of my ring again the other day. My little kalanchoe is making it in my ring. I wasn't sure how long it would, but it is growing and seems to be good. I added more dirt with tweezers and packed in in there better and cleaned up the ring since it had water and dirt stains. The first picture is from March 22 and the second one is from a couple of days ago. The second picture shows how much the plant has grown.

This ring is from March 22, 2010 Ring a Day Project. Ring 81/365. Here is the link to the Ring a Day Project http://www.flickr.com/groups/rad2010/

Happy Memorial Day! Have a great day! Kathryn

I made all of these rings today and caught up on the Rings for the Ring a Day challenge on Flickr. I fell behind. I had intentions of making this ring the entire 7 days that I did not make a ring. Each day I would think that I should get started and make one ring each day, but life got in the way and I was busy with orders, ect. So here it is....Finally.

I cut out each petal by hand. I used an Oval template that I got at the Art store here. They are then hand hammered and then curved a little. I then soldered on each petal. It was like a puzzle trying to get each petal to fit against the others.

Sand Dollar Ring

This Sand Dollar Ring has been an idea since the beginning weeks of Ring a Day. I wanted to make a ring with shells and sand under glass. I searched the shell shop for a small piece of glass and looked around town quite a bit. I finally found this square clear glass that had to be ordered. I then created the top part of the setting which sat on my bench for months. Then on Sunday I decided I needed to finish it and while at the beach I collected some sand and the tiniest shells that I could find. I finished the ring on Monday and it was time to put the sand and shells in. I tried a few different ways of putting shells and the sand dollar in, but decided that it looked best simply with the sand and the sand dollar. I hope you like it. It fits me perfectly so I may wear it around town. Here is the link to all my rings http://www.flickr.com/photos/kathryncole/sets/72157623970007795/

Work in progress

Work in progress

I wanted to show my work in progress for this beautiful ring set with a sapphire. The sheet silver is first cut out by hand (with a jeweler's handsaw) as shown on the bottom left picture. The ring is then formed around a ring mandrel and then soldered. It is then hammered more to form the circle. The tube setting is then attached and the sapphire is set. The first picture (on the top left) is the ring in the raw state before it is polished.

Have a great day!~Kathryn

Mini Collection

My creation
Originally uploaded by kathryn_cole

I created this mini collection for the Etsymetal Project Runway Final Challenge. I wanted to take a design that I already had and take it further. I chose my daisies in the two small sizes that I make them and played with the placement. I created the hoops first which turned out beautiful. I then worked on the necklace with Sapphires. I tried different placements of the daisies. The cluster of diasies worked out best to compliment the sapphires. The ring and the cuff were easy to design. They just fell into place after the first two. I wanted to match the hand hammering of the hoops in the ring and the bracelet. I think the collection turned out very nice.

I showed this collection at the Pier Aquarium Artful Collaboration along with some amazing Artists. It was a wonderful evening.
